In a now partially ruined niche, likely once part of a small shrine, there is a heavily deteriorated fresco depicting the Virgin of the Seven Sorrows. The seven sorrows refer to the seven painful moments in Mary’s life: the prophecy of Simeon, the flight into Egypt, the loss of Jesus in the temple, the meeting of Mary and Jesus on the Way of the Cross, the crucifixion, Jesus’ pierced heart, and his burial. From what remains, it is possible to discern a handcrafted work, showing a keen sense of color and the sculptural quality of the figures.
